We had a fantastic Fourth of July holiday! Erik and I think it's the best day yet that we've had as a family of four. We headed downtown in the morning for the parade and festival. Here are the kids watching the parade.
Folks in the parade toss candy, so the kids were especially excited. Alex tried his first Tootsie Roll.
We strolled down to the farmers' market for fresh berries, where we ate 2 1/2 pints of berries in no time flat. We also played on the giant bouncy house and other inflatables.

Luckily, both kids passed out on the way home and took a nice long nap in preparation for the evening's activities.
After nap, the kids played in the yard while Erik and I put together a cookout.

After dinner, we did our own fireworks. Both kids tried sparklers. Madeline insisted that flip slops were good, but you can see that she switched to boots after some sparks got her legs.

| Alex wasn't too fond of the noise. |
