Summer has finally arrived! We had sunshine and temps in the 80s today. So we all got sunscreen, which always seems to set the stage for summertime grime. The kids dug in the dirt and got quite grimy -- especially under their fingernails. At some point, Madeline declared that she was too hot and stripped off her shirt. (I'm sure that the real estate agent showing our neighbor's house appreciated a topless girl running around next door.) After dinner, we ate cherries and watermelon. By the time Madeline was done, her chin and belly were covered with sticky juice, which attracted even more grime. Alex stayed relatively clean as he left his shirt on and dribbled most of his watermelon juice on Mom. I don't remember getting so grimy as a kid, but I suppose that's why my mom used to tell us that we could grow carrots in the dirt under our chins.
